Start of the New Year is often the perfect time when most people want to set new goals in their life, which is why so many people make New Year resolutions. Researches have revealed that about 80-90% of the new year resolutions do not work. However, do we question ourselves why our new year resolutions keeps on failing? In this article, we share few reasons with you:
Unrealistic New Year Resolutions
Psychologist called it “false hope syndrome” which means that the resolutions are very unrealistic and out of alignment with our internal view of the goals. This principle reflects that when you make a positive affirmations about yourself but you do not really believe in it, the affirmations will not only failed but can also damage your self-esteem.
If you are going to be successful in creating the life of your dream, you have to be believed that you are capable of making it happen. You have to believe in yourself.
Trying to Change Many Thing at Once
The general consensus among expert is that for change to work, you must approach it in small numbers. This means you should focus on changing one habit at a time. However, you will be amazed that many people tends to work on so many goals at the same time. These goals may require change in different habits. Focusing on one or two resolutions is better than setting five different goals.
No Strict Personal standards
People who are committed and dedicated to their new year resolutions usually set a higher personal standards for themselves.
Your personal standard may include:
- Exercising every day before or after work – good health
- Reading school notes 3 hours a day – good student prepares for exam
- Monthly day out with your family or partner – to improve your relationship and many more.
Whatever may be your new year resolution, it important to understand that your standards could seriously impact your output. Standards are like your personal constitutions and principles.
“If you don’t set a baseline standard for what you’ll accept in life, you’ll find it’s easy to slip into behaviours and attitudes or a quality of life that’s far below what you deserve.” Anthony Robbins
If you want to lose weight, quit smoking or pass that exam you must hold to good personal standards with everything you have.
These are few reasons for you and I will be happy to learn about more reasons why many new year resolutions fails.
All the best in 2016.
