5 To Do List Before New Year

new year goals

We have just few days to say our final goodbye to the year 2015 and welcome the new year 2016. This means the year will soon belong to our past and it will never come back again. Therefore, we should not allowed our 2015 issues affect our new year goals.

Colin Powell once said, none of us can change our yesterdays, but all of us can change our tomorrows.

In reality, the leadership in most successful firms are thinking more about their new year goals than the result of current year. We as individuals should also be thinking about how to get ready for a better 2016.

Here are 5 things I believe can help anyone to prepare for a better new year.

1. Review Your Current Year Results

Do a final comparison of 2015 goals to the achievements you have made in the year. You may register some major successes or carryover some key goals to next year. It is important to note that you cannot change any result from this assessment. You can however learn from it and prepare for a better year ahead.

2. Ask for feedback

Ask for feedback from your colleagues, supervisor, spouse, relatives etc. Note that feedback is simply an information, so do not take it personally. Their candid feedback and opinion could help you to know the areas that need some improvement. May be your time, finance or relationship management.

3. Understand why you didn’t achieve some goals

Your candid self-analysis and feedbacks should indicate some reasons why you couldn’t achieve some of your goals. Nonetheless, here are some reasons why most people fail in life.

  1. Lack of commitment – you were not committed to save some money or change your habit to enable you to succeed.
  2. Failed to learn the new skills need to achieve certain goals.
  3. Fear of failure – to take the key steps.
  4. Sometimes it is your network that is very poor.

4. Set Your New Year Goals

You should now set the 2016 goals and don’t forget to show the means of achieving each of them. Your goal should be S.M.A.R.T meaning Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Result focused and Time-bound.

The primary reason for failure is that people do not develop new plans to replace those plans that didn’t work.” (Napoleon Hill)

5. Start to Take Action

Simply setting your personal goals is not a strategy. You have to be an action biased person. You may have to:

  • Do more of something,
  • Do less of something,
  • Stop doing something
  • Starting something new

Whatever you asked God to do for you, remember you still have to take action, because God will not come and promote you, credit your bank account or just give you that perfect relationship.

The list may seem common sense to some readers, however I believe it is caring to remind the people we care about. So why not share this article with someone you care about.

Compliments of the Season and Happy New Year.

This is perfect for this period. Very good to read and apply. It may sound common sense to some people, as you said, but there is a lot to learn. Very inspiring article.
