You may have a great goal and excellent action plan, however your chances of success will be very low if you do not believe in yourself. Self-confidence has been one of the major reason most people could not achieve the targets they set for themselves. I am not talking about the target someone set for you but one you set for yourself. If you want to be the best Singer, you must be able to face the crowd.
As Max Lucado would say “You weren’t an accident. You were not mass-produced. You aren’t an assembly line product. You were deliberately planned, specifically gifted, and lovingly positioned on the Earth by the Master Craftsman.
If you are going to be successful in creating the life of your dream, you have to be believed that you are capable of making it happen. You have to believe in yourself. During my 5 years of teaching accounting, I have found out that many students who failed courses such as accounting or mathematics have already believe that they can never pass the course even before starting the class.
Remember believing yourself is a choice and it is an attitude you developed over time. You must choose to believe that you can achieve any goal you set. After all, who is responsible for your successes or failures? YOU
Here few tips that will help you to develop the habit of believing yourself.
1. Know your skills and be realistic about them.
If you need to acquire new skill for your goal, go for it. Do not think you are too late to follow your passion. Have you heard about a 42 years woman going to Secondary School (G7) in Nigeria ? She has a goal.
2. Believe in yourself even with Failure and rejection
Failure and rejection are part of life and the only time you actually failed is when you stopped trying. You should learn from your mistakes and failures. Dr. Seuss, best seller American author was rejected by publishers several times but he never gave up writing.
“When someone tells me ‘no,’ it doesn’t mean I can’t do it, it simply means I can’t do it with them”- Karen Quinones
In a different word, read what Hellen Keller said
When one door of happiness closes, another opens; but often we look so long at the closed-door that we do not see the one which has been opened for us.
3. Know who listen to
Avoid listening to people who keeps on telling you “it is not possible”. You should be listening to positive people who will inspire you and bring the best out of you. Yes, they believe in you.
4. Be positive
Think positive and do not listening to the negative self-talk that normally holds you back. Your self-talk can sometimes put fear and other negative imagination in you.
5. Love yourself
You should accept and take yourself as you are. If you keep on comparing yourself with others, you will not be able to focus on your own skill. You can compare to set goal but not put yourself down.
Jeff Bozos, the Founder of Amazon said; “I knew that if I failed I wouldn’t regret that, but I knew the one thing I might regret is not trying”.
Believe in yourself, because I believe in you.
